The aurora borealis, which could be seen on Sunday evening in several places in the country, is due to the intense solar activity of the last two to three days, said the coordinator of the Astronomical Observatory “Admiral Vasile Urseanu” in Bucharest, museographer Adrian Şonka, reports Agerpres.
Images of the aurora borealis captured in Romania appeared on social networks on Sunday evening. The extremely spectacular phenomenon, which is usually visible at high latitudes, after the Polar Circle, presented itself in the form of a red “curtain” descending from the sky. Astronomer Adrian Șonka explained to Digi24.ro that the aurora that appeared in Romania's sky is the effect of a solar flare that occurred a few days ago.
