‘Talking too big too soon’: Kapil Dev raises a pressing question about Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
India bowling coach Morne Morkel indicated on Friday that management will back openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma despite calls for 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to debut ahead of the 2nd T20I against England.
Morkel explained the coaching staff prefers maintaining continuity, citing the pair's World Cup success and avoiding batting players out of position. The coach stated, "It's a matter of backing the guys who've won World Cups and done really well in tough situations."
While Abhishek Sharma has made one half century and a 49 in his last three innings, Samson has been disappointing with scores of 5, 0, and 1. Meanwhile, Sooryavanshi has impressed management during training and integrated smoothly into the squad.
Morkel also praised newcomer pacer Prince Yadav, who has claimed 6 wickets across 3 international matches, highlighting his composure under pressure from their time together at the Lucknow Super Giants.
Although no specific timeline exists for Sooryavanshi's debut, the coach emphasized the teenager has adapted well to the international environment. Management remains excited about his potential for future opportunities.
