West Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari's Convoy Allegedly Attacked in Cooch Behar
COOCH BEHAR DISTRICT, WEST BENGAL, AUG 5 – Suvendu Adhikari's convoy was attacked with stones and sticks amid political tensions over alleged harassment of BJP workers and protests against the National Register of Citizens, BJP leaders said.
- On Tuesday, Suvendu Adhikari’s convoy was allegedly attacked by Trinamool Congress supporters at Khagrabari Chowpati around 12.35 pm in Cooch Behar.
- Adhikari was heading to meet the Superintendent of Police of Cooch Behar over reports of attacks on party legislators in the recent past, after securing a Calcutta High Court order.
- Soon, the mob attacked the convoy with bamboo sticks, iron rods, and pelted stones, shattering windshields of multiple vehicles.
- The BJP condemned the attack, stating `Adhikari escaped unhurt because his bulletproof vehicle withstood the attack` and police arrested one suspect.
- In response, the Trinamool Congress organised protests at 19 spots, with Mamata Banerjee stating, `I won't allow the implementation of NRC or the building of detention camps in Bengal`.
