Suspected street food poisoning kills mum, two kids in Istanbul
- On Nov. 14, the mother of a German-Turkish family died one day after her children, who died on Nov. 13, and the hotel in Istanbul's Fatih district was evacuated on Nov 15.
- The family fell ill on Nov. 12 after eating mussels, kokoreç and kumpir in Ortaköy quarter, Bosphorus waterside; the children were treated for nausea and vomiting but initially discharged.
- Samples from multiple outlets and water sources were collected while municipal teams inspected stalls; forensic investigators and municipal inspection teams took drinking-water and food samples and sealed one restaurant in Beşiktaş.
- Police have detained seven people including a hotel employee and pest-control workers, and two additional tourists were hospitalized on Nov. 15 with similar symptoms.
- Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said tests are under way to confirm if consumed food caused the deaths, and Germany's Foreign Office confirmed the victims were German citizens.
