The Supreme Court (OGH) has ruled that so-called "loot boxes" in football simulation games do not constitute illegal gambling. "Loot boxes" are paid video game elements with randomly generated rewards. According to a recent OGH decision, "loot boxes" must be assessed within the context of the entire game. Since player success depends significantly on strategy and tactics, they do not constitute illegal gambling (6 Ob 228/24h).
