BKK Proposes Traffic-Free Zones at Schools to Boost Child Safety

Budapest’s public transport operator BKK announced plans on Thursday to introduce ‘school streets’ near selected educational institutions. The "school streets" could only be entered on foot, by bicycle or scooter during morning arrival and afternoon departure.

The Mayor recommends Katalin Walter as a professionally recognized manager to head BKK again.

BKK would take another step for the safety of children: they would temporarily ban cars from the streets in front of schools. The goal is noble, as it would create a calmer, cleaner and accident-free environment for students, but its implementation is still questionable.

There may be school streets that cannot be entered at this time.
