The idea was introduced this year as the White House ramped up efforts to make good on President Trump’s campaign promise of mass deportations.

Since January 2025, at least 12 people have been arrested by Immigration and Customs Control (ICE) agents in courts or their immediate vicinity in seven U.S. states. Such arrests, carried out in places such as North Carolina, Illinois, Massachusetts, among others, have rekindled the debate on immigration strategies promoted by President Donald Trump’s government in its second term.
