Star youngster ruled out of India's tour of Ireland and England due to injury: Reports
The 23-year-old all-rounder needs at least four weeks of rehabilitation after an MRI showed swelling and fibre disruption in his left quadriceps.
On Monday, the BCCI confirmed that all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is ruled out of India's upcoming tours of Ireland and England due to a left quadriceps injury aggravated during last week's third ODI against Afghanistan in Chennai.
An MRI revealed swelling and fiber disruption in Nitish's left quadriceps, contradicting earlier optimism from Captain Shubman Gill, who had revealed the all-rounder had 'some issues with his quad' following the Afghanistan series.
The medical bulletin stated that Nitish requires a minimum of four weeks for rehabilitation before beginning his Return To Play protocols, and he has been asked to report to the COE for further assessment.
His absence creates a significant void, as Nitish was expected to replace all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who is currently managing his own quadriceps niggle, with the BCCI not yet naming a replacement.
Despite initial optimism from bowling coach Morne Morkel, the injury proved more serious than anticipated, halting progress Nitish made while working with independent fast bowling coach Steffan Jones to increase his bowling speeds from 120 kphs to the mid-130s.
