Due to Luka Koper's intention to deepen the canal on the Ankaran concession, which could destroy the area with salt water, the Ministry of Agriculture has agreed with those involved, among other things, to maintain the canal's flowability and to begin procedures for a new irrigation system.

At a meeting on Thursday, Ankara municipal councilors demanded an immediate halt to construction work on the project to regulate the peripheral canal on the Ankaran embankment, and they also expect the project documentation to be supplemented. They also called for the installation of temporary protection, and promised assistance to affected farmers.
