India Test Squad Arrives in Sri Lanka for World Test Championship Series
India begin a two-Test series with the World Test Championship final race in focus, while Jasprit Bumrah is ruled out with a knee injury.
On Tuesday, the Shubman Gill-led Indian team landed in Sri Lanka ahead of a crucial two-match Test series beginning August 15, with Sri Lanka Cricket sharing images of the squad's arrival.
India sits fifth in the ICC World Test Championship standings with a 48.15 points percentage after winning four of nine matches, making this series pivotal for reaching the final at The Oval.
The team travels without ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, sidelined by a knee injury sustained during the second ODI against England last month; Auqib Nabi replaces him after helping Jammu and Kashmir win their first Ranji Trophy title earlier this year.
Ahead of the Tests, India will play a three-day warm-up match against a Sri Lanka XI team at Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo starting August 7, after Sri Lanka Cricket reduced the fixture from four days.
This marks India's first Test series in Sri Lanka since March 2022, when they won 2-0; a 2-0 sweep here would raise their points percentage to 57.58, significantly boosting WTC final qualification hopes.
Ahead of the Sri Lanka Test series, Aakash Chopra has issued a major warning to Team India regarding the race for the WTC final. Find out why this series is considered a do-or-die situation for India.
