Springfield will use $18M in federal grants for housing programs

SPRINGFIELD – The city will tap roughly $18 million in federal money to battle a housing crisis.The funding from the department of Housing and Urban Development is broken into four grants. The largest, a $9.7 million award, is shared with surrounding Hampden County communities and multiple regional nonprofit agencies such as Wayfinders and Gandara, said Geraldine McCafferty, housing director for the city.
