Your Kids Can Get Their Own Spotify Premium Accounts Now, With Limits

Spotify’s managed accounts give kids personalized music and protect parents’ recommendations with parental controls, now available in major markets including the US and UK.

  • On Tuesday, Spotify announced managed accounts are expanding to seven new markets, including the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands as part of its Premium Family plan.
  • After a pilot last year in ten countries including New Zealand and Mexico, Spotify expanded managed accounts as parents and guardians grew frustrated by disrupted recommendations.
  • Parents can use parental controls like an Explicit Content Filter, block specific artists or songs, and hide videos and Canvas loops while interactivity features like Messages and collaborative playlists are restricted for younger listeners under 13.
  • For parents sharing a Premium Family plan, each managed account protects playlists and algorithmic recommendations by creating separate Spotify Wrapped lists, preventing children’s listening from skewing adults’ stats.
  • To set up, Family plan holders select Add a Member then Add a listener aged under 13, confirm guardian status and set a PIN; Spotify allows seven days to revert a profile before deletion.
