Venezuelans deported by the United States to El Salvador reported having been victims of torture and sexual abuse during the four months of detention in the megacarcel for gang members of President Nayib Bukele, who released – with the approval of Congress – the road to his unlimited reelection and consolidates a “autocratic” system, according to his critics.
One prisoner was terrified at being unconscious. Others saw the edge of the dark insulation cell covered by hematomas, with difficulty walking or shedding blood. Another returned to his cell in l grimas, telling other prisoners that he had just been sexually abused. Read more (08/03/2025)
