Why Jason Robertson Turned Down Massive Offer From Kraken, Confusing Stars and Maybe Helping Senators
The winger reportedly rejected a contract worth $120 million over eight years as contract talks and trade compensation stalled.
Dallas Stars winger Jason Robertson rejected an eight-year, $120 million offer from the Seattle Kraken after Dallas granted the team permission to negotiate with the impending RFA.
With the threat of an offer sheet imminent, the Stars were willing to trade Robertson; Elliotte Friedman reported Dallas and Seattle worked out "some kind of trade" involving a first-round pick.
Widely viewed as the NHL's best left winger, the 26-year-old Robertson recorded at least 45 goals and 45 assists, positioning him as a franchise player.
Elliotte Friedman reported Thursday that Robertson and the Stars remain "believed to be at least $2 million apart per season"; neither side nor representative Andy Scott commented.
Robertson will become a restricted free agent on July 1; he may be hesitant to join the Kraken, which has missed the playoffs in each of the past three seasons.
