Soft Cell Announce Details of Final Album, Danceteria
The 12-track album was completed shortly before Dave Ball's death and includes a title-track video by collage artist Vicki Bennett.
Electronic pop duo Soft Cell will release their final studio album, Danceteria, on September 25, 2026, with vocalist Marc Almond describing it as a "love letter to New York in the early '80s."
Following the death of co-founder Dave Ball last October at age 66, the album serves as a tribute; Ball completed the project two days before he passed away.
Drawing from the duo's time recording in Manhattan, the album reflects a pivotal era of "unbridled creativity" in the early 1980s club scene that shaped both artists.
Almond confirmed this album marks the end of Soft Cell's recording career, stating, "There can be no more recordings of Soft Cell without Dave," though the band continues touring North America.
Danceteria serves as a playful farewell to 47 years of collaboration between Almond and Ball, cementing a legacy of electronic pioneering acknowledged by peers including the Pet Shop Boys.
Soft Cell’s latest studio album, Danceteria, will serve as an emotional and “appropriate farewell” to the late musician Dave Ball, according to bandmate Marc Almond.
