The 35-year-old forward said the move fulfills a lifelong MLS ambition and sets up another rivalry with Lionel Messi in the Florida derby.
On Tuesday, Antoine Griezmann fulfilled a lifelong ambition by joining Major League Soccer club Orlando City, signing a contract through 2028 after leaving Atletico Madrid as the club's all-time leading scorer.
The 35-year-old forward said he dreamed of playing in the MLS since he was 18, choosing to move now while feeling physically and mentally capable of performing at his best.
Orlando sporting director Ricardo Moreira's visit to Madrid "touched my heart," Griezmann said, adding he connected well with the club and his children are delighted with the move.
Griezmann is looking forward to facing Lionel Messi again in the Florida derby against Inter Miami, with teammates noting "they've told me a lot about the derby."
The Frenchman hopes his experience helps Orlando compete for trophies while facing former Atletico teammate Rodrigo; he sees little difference between European and MLS standards.
