The third largest country in the world with the largest number of private swimming pools, France has seen their numbers literally rise over the last 25 years, but in some regions local authorities are taking action to deal with droughts, up to a ban on them.
In France, there are 3,600,000 private swimming pools. Their number has increased fivefold in 25 years. This comfort has become problematic for the municipality of Seillans. In a context of drought, high heat and lack of precipitation which dry up the streams, the building permits are frozen until 2028.
