Senate confirms Trump's pick to join liberal-majority US appeals court

The U.S. Senate on Tuesday confirmed President Donald Trump's first and only nominee to the Boston-based federal appeals court, which until now had been largely composed of judges appointed by Democrats and has frequently blocked his policy initiatives.

Dunlap, a Pierce Atwood attorney since 2009, was confirmed on a 52-46 vote. He will replace retiring Judge William Kayatta Jr., an appointee of former President Barack Obama, on the six-member court.
