Security stepped up in India's capital for 'cockroach' movement rally
Police deployed more than 6,000 officers and 220 CAPF companies as the CJP pressed ahead with a flag march demanding its leaders’ release.
On Friday, Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke called on supporters to gather at Central Park in Connaught Place for a flag march, asserting that "waving a tiranga is not a crime."
The march follows the five-day judicial remand of CJP co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were jailed for trespassing at Jantar Mantar after it was denotified as a protest site.
Authorities deployed more than 6,000 Delhi Police personnel and 220 companies of Central Armed Police Forces in Connaught Place, while the New Delhi Municipal Council closed Central Park for two days citing "administrative reasons."
The Delhi High Court declined to restrain the protest, while the Supreme Court refused an urgent hearing on the park's closure as local traders warned demonstrations "would cause severe loss."
Ongoing protests against the Special Intensive Revision continue demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation, as CJP alleges the process deleted more than 130 million names to favor the Bharatiya Janata Party .
In anticipation of new protests against the amendment of the electoral rolls called for by the "Croaches Party" the Indian police lifted the high alert again today in New Delhi, the capital.
