Scottish Fire Service Battles Wildfire Near Ryvoan Bothy in Cairngorms
Fire crews say no casualties have been reported as smoke spreads toward nearby communities and 4 appliances, specialist wildfire teams respond.
On Wednesday, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service deployed four appliances and specialist wildfire resources to a large fire at Ryvoan Bothy within Cairngorms National Park after Operations Control received an alert at 11:49 a.m.
Intense heat and dry conditions prompted the SFRS to issue wildfire warnings across Scotland earlier this week, cautioning the public to "stay vigilant" while active firefighting continues.
Police evacuated residents in Glenmore after smoke spread toward nearby Aviemore; Duncan Ferguson, operations manager at the Spey Fishery Board, reported officials told residents to "leave your pets and go."
The blaze coincides with a new Met Office report stating that the UK climate of the 20th century "has now gone," linking such extreme weather to human-caused climate change.
Firefighters are also battling a separate gorse fire at Garry Park Wood in Fife, while authorities monitor high-risk areas as wildfire conditions persist across Scotland throughout the week.
