Scotland third best team in world, says Erasmus after Boks win
Erasmus said 13 players had fewer than 10 caps and praised Scotland after the Springboks’ 42-28 win.
On Saturday, South Africa head coach Rassie Erasmus reached a record 55th match in charge, guiding the world champions to a 42-28 victory over Scotland at Loftus Versfeld.
Erasmus assumed the role in 2018, reaching his 55th Test in two spells to surpass the previous record of 54 matches established by 2007 Rugby World Cup-winning coach Jake White.
The coach made 10 lineup changes to test squad depth, stating, "They are not settled Test players, but they are guys who needed tier-one opposition" to evaluate performance under pressure.
Scotland captain Sione Tuipulotu praised his team's resilience after fighting back from a 21-point deficit, though expressing frustration over missed execution that ultimately cost them the match.
The victory secures South Africa's lead in the Nations Championship's Southern Hemisphere conference, with the team facing Wales in Durban during the third round next Saturday.
