Save the Light Inc. will mark 150 years since the first lighting of the Morris Island Lighthouse with a public celebration at Bowens Island Restaurant on Sunday, Oct. 18, from 2-5 p.m. The lighthouse was first illuminated on Oct. 1, 1876, and has stood off the northeast end of Folly Beach ever since, outlasting hurricanes, an earthquake and more than a century of shoreline erosion.
