Saudi Arabia: Migrant Workers in Mecca Arrested for Demanding Unpaid Wages

At least 600 migrant workers employed by Saudi Arabian Baytur Construction Company have not received their salaries for at least eight months.

According to a report by Human Rights Watch at least 600 workers have been without salary for months. Those who protested have been stopped and detained, then released. For experts the 'effective number' of those who are not paid 'may be significantly higher'. The testimony: 'We did not know that bringing a strike was a crime. We were accused of having attempted to overthrow the state'.
