A meeting of the United Nations Security Council on peacebuilding in West Africa was held on Tuesday, 18 November. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on the Sahel states to set aside their differences in order to deal with the explosion of jihadist attacks in an area already experiencing a humanitarian crisis.
The number of jihadist attacks in the Sahel has exploded in six years, from 1,900 in 2019, mainly concentrated on the border between Mali and Burkina Faso, to more than 5,500 in 2024 and 3,800 before 10 October 2025.

On the occasion of a meeting on peacebuilding in West Africa, the Permanent Representative of Mali, Ambassador Issa Konfourou, presented the common position of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger on the fight against armed groups in the region.
