Actors' Union Approves 4-Year Contract with Studios and Streamers
Members approved the pact by 91.4% as it sets new AI rules and adds a 1% studio contribution to combined pension plans.
On Thursday, members of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists ratified a four-year agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, with 91.42% of voters approving the deal.
Seeking to avoid a repeat of the 118-day strike in 2023, studios and SAG-AFTRA secured a four-year term to ensure industry stability and prioritize 'labor peace' throughout the contract cycle.
New contract provisions require producers to prove synthetic, AI-generated performers bring 'significant additional value' to projects and have an 'articulable business reason' to scan actors for digital replicas.
The agreement merges the SAG-Producers Pension Plan and AFTRA Retirement Fund by January 1, 2028, with studios increasing contributions by 1 percent to ensure long-term stability for members.
With the actors' deal finalized, attention shifts to the Directors Guild of America, which continues negotiations with the AMPTP ahead of its June 30 contract expiration.
New agreement with the representative of hundreds of producers broadens previous protections against AI and "protects the value of human performance and creativity," the American union said.
