Roku Users Will Now Be Able to Test New Apps & Features Before They're Released, Plus Four New Roku Updates Coming Soon
The program opens testing to any Roku owner and launches with four apps, including weather, stocks and custom screensavers.
- On Thursday, Roku introduced Roku Labs, a program allowing U.S. users to test experimental, in-development apps directly through a tile on the Roku Home Screen.
- Brian Pinkerton, SVP Advanced Development at Roku, stated the program bridges the gap between engineers and viewers, giving millions of households "a seat at the table to explore, test, and shape experiences in real time."
- Four in-development features are currently available for testing: Roku Stocks for portfolio tracking, Roku Weather for forecasts, Backdrops Studio for custom artwork, and Roku Immerse for screensaver customization.
- Alongside Labs, Roku announced premium subscription bundles in the U.S. and Mexico offering up to 30 percent savings on services including AMC Plus and Starz.
- The company is open-sourcing Roku LT OS for external developers while expanding its redesigned Roku Home Screen to Brazil and Mexico in the coming months.
