Tiffany Stratton, Jade Cargill Win Interim Women's Title Qualifiers On WWE SmackDown - Wrestling Inc.
Five women will qualify for a ladder match to crown an interim WWE Women’s Champion after Rhea Ripley is ruled out with a torn meniscus.
On Friday, July 17, Raw General Manager Adam Pearce announced that reigning WWE Women's Champion Rhea Ripley will miss SummerSlam due to a knee injury, forcing WWE to crown an interim champion in a Ladder Match.
Pearce acknowledged Ripley's torn meniscus and said she had been working "tirelessly" with the medical team, but she cannot compete at the "Biggest Party of the Summer" due to an uncertain recovery timeline.
Five women will earn spots in the championship bout through qualifying matches on SmackDown beginning this week, with the final Ladder Match taking place at SummerSlam in Minneapolis.
Once Ripley is medically cleared to return, Pearce confirmed she will receive a title match against the interim champion to determine the true WWE Women's Champion.
Potential contenders for the interim title include former champions Jade Cargill and Tiffany Stratton, though official participants for the qualifying matches remain TBA.
