A series of around 30 unexplained sabotage attacks targeting telecommunications masts is being investigated by the police, SVT can reveal. Most of the cases are linked to the E22 on the Swedish east coast – and are part of a larger increase in suspected sabotage against the telecom sector. – We take it seriously and that is why we have chosen to take action, says Criminal Inspector Håkan Wessung.
Common to all cases is that they all occurred near the E22 route along the eastern coast of Sweden.
According to SVT, saboteurs have cut the mast cables and destroyed the fuses.
The police are currently investigating a large-scale wave of sabotage against telecommunications towers in Sweden. Since the Easter weekend, around thirty incidents have been reported, in which the perpetrators have systematically cut cables and destroyed fuses on facilities that are crucial for mobile and data communications.
