Kristian Campbell hits first career home run in Red Sox loss to Rangers
- Kristian Campbell hit his first career MLB home run, a 431-foot drive to left-center, at Globe Life Field on Saturday night against the Texas Rangers.
- Campbell, Boston's fourth-round pick in the 2023 draft out of Georgia Tech, won a roster spot in spring training due to his performance at three minor league levels last summer where he slashed.330/.439/.558 with 20 home runs and 32 doubles.
- Despite Campbell's strong performance, finishing 2 for 3 with a walk, a double, and a home run, and tying the score shortly after Buehler allowed a home run to Garcia, the Red Sox lost to the Rangers 4-3.
- Following the game, Campbell, who is considered the Red Sox's second-best prospect, said he was excited his family was in the stands for his first home run, adding, "I was happy they got to see that, they haven't seen me hit a home run probably since college," while manager Alex Cora noted, "I think the bottom part of the lineup did a good job getting on base and doing all of that stuff and the big boys, they didn't cash in."
- With Campbell's club control potentially extending through 2030, the Red Sox and Campbell's representatives are reportedly engaged in deep talks regarding a potential contract extension, though Campbell wouldn't confirm if a deal was close, as the team hopes to salvage a four-game split in Sunday's season finale with their record currently at 1-2.
