Red Bull Parks 'Macarena' Rear Wing for Belgian GP After Verstappen Crashes
Red Bull will switch to a standard rear wing after two high-speed failures left Max Verstappen with back-to-back crashes, team principal Laurent Mekies said.
Red Bull confirmed a return to its previous-specification rear wing for the Belgian Grand Prix, following Max Verstappen's recent high-speed crashes in Austria and Britain.
Verstappen spun out at Silverstone last week after the wing failed to re-attach during cornering, and he crashed in Austria a week earlier; the Dutchman branded the car "super dangerous."
The abandoned "Macarena" wing, introduced in Miami, rotates more than 180 degrees to boost straight-line speed; the FIA launched safety discussions with Red Bull and rival Ferrari, whose design operated without incident.
Team principal Laurent Mekies confirmed Red Bull is working on modifications at its Milton Keynes factory to resolve the flaw. Verstappen confirmed, "We'll go back on the old one and see when the latest one is ready."
The Spa circuit features five straight-line speed zones, the most since the season opener in Australia, where Red Bull will run the conventional design while remaining keen to use the rotating wing soon.
