Red alert in Huelva as floods hit Andalusia
Authorities activated emergency plans after more than 80 weather incidents were reported, with flooded roads and fallen trees disrupting daily life along the Huelva coast.
- On Tuesday, Aemet placed the coastal areas of Huelva, Andalusia under a red alert, activating Operation Level 1 of the Flood Risk Plan and sending extreme danger alerts to mobile phones.
- Torrential rains have flooded streets, underpasses and basements overnight, while storm winds and fallen branches caused blocked roads and damaged street furniture, including a wall collapse in La Puebla de Guzmán, Huelva.
- 112 Andalucía confirmed it handled around 80 weather-related incidents by early Wednesday, with Seville province logging 69, Cádiz and Huelva five each, and Córdoba one, while no injuries were reported.
- Authorities urge residents to stay indoors, avoid rivers and ravines, and limit driving as rain continues through Wednesday, while local councils inspect bridges, rural roads and storm drains to prevent flooding.
- Andalusian minister Antonio Sanz said heavy rain near Ayamonte and other Huelva towns like Almonaster la Real and Los Marines could worsen, urging residents to avoid travel amid ongoing disruptions.
