PM Modi Unveils Landmark Greenfield Refinery in Rajasthan
The 9 MMTPA complex is expected to meet 9% to 10% of India’s fuel demand and support downstream industries, officials said.
- On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first greenfield integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at Pachpadra in Rajasthan, marking the country's 24th refinery after construction began in 2018.
- Spread over nearly 4,400 acres across a 32-kilometre campus, the refinery processes 9 million metric tonnes of crude annually, sourcing 1.5 million tonnes from Rajasthan's Mangla Terminal and 7.5 million tonnes through Mundra Port in Gujarat.
- The integrated complex comprises 13 processing units—nine refinery and four petrochemical units—with annual petrochemical production of 2.4 lakh tonnes. Construction created nearly one lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities.
- Modi also laid the foundation stone for the Rs 13,000-crore Phase-II of Jaipur Metro, inaugurated Jodhpur Airport's Terminal Building, and launched the Modified UDAN scheme before travelling to Balotra.
- Officials expect the refinery to meet 9 to 10 per cent of India's fuel demand, with HPCL distributing petrol and diesel via pipeline to Palanpur for nationwide distribution, positioning western India as a fuel production hub.
