The US Department of Defense is launching a $2.2 billion Janus program to install privately developed and operated micro-nuclear reactors at military bases in five countries between 2027 and 2031. The first micro-reactor is scheduled to be operational in 2028.
The U.S. Army will install micro-centrals to cope with growing demand for electricity due to the proliferation of data centers, the development of artificial intelligence and the increased consumption of U.S. households for air conditioning.
