Program seeks to convert vacant properties into family homes
Amid a housing crisis, some 23,000 abandoned homes are scattered throughout the neighborhoods of Massachusetts's post-industrial Gateway Cities. A pilot project in Springfield and Greenfield could provide a path to rehabilitating them and relocating them to families. "These are the worst of the worst," said Springfield Housing Director Geraldine McCafferty, speaking at the Reclaiming Vacant Properties seminar on Tuesday, April 8.
