BROOKLYN PARK, MINNESOTA, JUN 18 – Vance Boelter was arrested after a 36-hour manhunt and charged with murder and attempted murder in the politically motivated killing of Minnesota Democratic lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband.
- Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her spouse, Mark, were tragically killed early on June 14 in their Brooklyn Park residence by an individual posing as a police officer.
- Vance Boelter, 57, was taken into custody Sunday night following a two-day manhunt and faces prosecution for two second-degree murder charges as well as two counts of attempted second-degree murder.
- Governor Tim Walz described the incident as likely driven by political motives, and officials disclosed that Boelter possessed a list containing 70 additional targets, which included individuals from Iowa and neighboring states.
- On Monday, Sophie and Colin, the children of the Hortman family, shared that they are unharmed and surrounded by family, expressing how deeply they miss their parents. Meanwhile, vigils and memorial services continue to pay tribute to the couple.
- Boelter appeared in federal court Monday with a preliminary hearing set for June 27, and the shootings have prompted public remembrance and calls to reduce political violence.
