Probe after woman's body found in Co Waterford
On Monday shortly after 2 p.m., Gardaí discovered the body of Noreen Daly, an 80-year-old woman living alone at her home in Ardsallagh near Youghal Bridge on the Cork-Waterford border.
Detectives launched an investigation, appointing a Senior Investigating Officer and establishing an incident room at Dungarvan Garda Station to coordinate forensic examinations of the scene.
A 33-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday and is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Dungarvan Garda station in connection with the death.
Sinn Féin TD for Waterford Conor D McGuinness described the incident as "deeply sad and upsetting," appealing for witnesses with dashcam footage to contact Dungarvan Garda Station.
A post-mortem examination scheduled within 24 hours at University Hospital Waterford in Ardkeen will assist investigators in determining the circumstances surrounding the death.
