First Train Unveiled for Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link; Service Will Run From 6am to 12am

  • On June 30, the first of eight driverless RTS Link trains for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System was officially revealed during an event held at the testing facility in Tuas, Singapore.
  • In 2021, CRRC was selected to produce the RTS Link trains, and as of June 30, installation of system components is more than halfway finished, with track laying anticipated to be completed by the end of July.
  • The fully automated trains, each 76.5 meters long with four cars, will run at up to 80 km/h, carry over 600 passengers, and operate daily from 6am to midnight with a peak frequency of 3.6 minutes.
  • Datuk Khairil Anwar Ahmad emphasized that the RTS Link represents a significant collaboration between Malaysia and Singapore, enhancing connectivity and creating numerous opportunities to strengthen their bilateral ties.
  • Testing is expected to complete by late 2025, with passenger service starting in December 2026, which will ease Causeway congestion and reduce cross-border travel to about five minutes.
