Azores US consulate to be closed

The closure of consulates aligns with Elon Musk's plan, which Trump placed at the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, with the objective of drastically cutting government spending.

“According to the information we have at the moment, there are no plans to close the consulate in Ponta Delgada, in the Azores,” an official source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MNE) said today

The US State Department has included the consulate in Ponta Delgada, in the Azores, on a list of 12 diplomatic posts to be closed during the summer.

The United States Consulate in the Azores has been in continuous operation since the late 18th century. The Trump Administration is expected to close it during the summer.
