Police looking for inmate missing from Vancouver Island minimum security prison
Police are searching for a 69-year-old lifer after his escape from a minimum-security federal prison, officials said.
- On Sunday, June 28, Ernest Egon Jensen escaped from the William Head Institution in Metchosin, British Columbia, after the Correctional Service of Canada discovered him missing during a noon count.
- Jensen is serving an indeterminate life sentence for second-degree murder since March 20, 1991, from a minimum-security facility located about 27 kilometres southwest of Victoria.
- The West Shore RCMP deployed "extensive patrols" to locate the 69-year-old inmate, while RCMP Air Services and facility staff conducted comprehensive searches inside and outside prison grounds.
- Police consider Jensen "dangerous" and urge anyone who sees him not to approach but to call 911 immediately; he is described as 5'8", weighing 228 pounds, with a bald head.
- Escapes from William Head have occurred in recent years; in 2019, inmates James Lee Busch and Zachary Armitage fled the facility and later killed 60-year-old Martin Payne.
