Underfunding of PSNI impacting on services, watchdog says

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) needs to improve its crime prevention and offender management, according to a police watchdog.

A new report paints a shocking picture of the police's financial management. It spends far too much on things like storing investigation information and cybersecurity, and now has to save around 160 million euros. "This is very worrying. It's about national security," says police union NPB.

The financial situation of the police is a mess. This is evident from a confidential report by accounting firm Ernst & Young, commissioned by chief of police Janny Knol. The report reveals that there is no clear insight into the expenditure of the police, especially in the area of IT and ongoing digital projects.
