Police intervened Thursday evening during a protest against the arrival of an asylum seekers' center (AZC) in Doetinchem. Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in front of the town hall, where a council meeting was taking place about the center.

This evening, the Doetinchem city council will meet to discuss the arrival of an asylum seekers' center. Due to unrest last week around City Hall, the public and press are not welcome. Additional security measures have been implemented due to fears of further unrest. According to the Municipal Act, such a meeting should, in principle, be open to the public.
Five suspects remain in custody following violent disturbances in Doetinchem on Thursday evening. They are suspected of assault, vandalism, and incitement during a demonstration against an asylum seekers' center that got out of hand, according to police.
