Police handed ‘super-Taser’ to tackle surge in violence against officers
The Taser 10 fires up to 45 feet with 10 probes and activates body cameras automatically, aiming to improve officer safety and public accountability, officials said.
- Axon's T10 will be available to all forces from Thursday and can fire to 45ft, nearly doubling the range of the Taser 7.
- After two-and-a-half years of testing, the College of Policing and Home Office completed medical assessments and trials to enhance officer safety while maintaining public trust.
- The Taser T10 model's firing features include up to 10 single probes, automatic body-worn camera activation, strobe light and laser targeting, and the two probes rule for electric discharge.
- About 20 police forces have already signed up, with Policing minister Sarah Jones and Chief Constable Lucy D'Orsi watching a north London demonstration and forces using virtual reality training.
- Black Lives Matter UK and the Runnymede Trust warned the T10 rollout risks worsening disparities, citing 2018 London Taser statistics showing 74% of deployments were on non-white people and 50% of 839 children tasered were black.
