Police arrest three more over synagogue attack - as they say terrorist was on bail for alleged rape
Three additional arrests follow a terror attack at a Manchester synagogue where police believe one victim was mistakenly shot by officers during the response.
- Jihad al Shamie is named as the suspect after an attack at a north Manchester synagogue that killed two men.
- The Al Shamie family, who are from Syria and moved about 20 years ago, strongly condemned the attack while neighbours said the suspect 'didn't stand out' and expressed shock.
- GMP says one victim may have been shot mistakenly during the armed response, with only Authorised Firearms Officers firing as they tried to stop the offender, and the force referring itself to the IOPC.
- Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer visited the scene and spoke with officers, flags over the House of Commons were lowered on Sir Lindsay Hoyle's order until 8pm, and the government opened a compensation scheme via Gov.UK with CICA accepting applications online.
- Baroness Julia Neuberger said antisemitism has worsened as Holocaust memory fades, and Dame Sarah Mullally called the attack `horrific`, warning hatred cannot divide communities.
