Poland says police got information about possible attack on PM and Defence Minister
On Sunday, Polish authorities convened an emergency meeting at the Internal Security Agency's Counter-Terrorism Centre after police received credible information regarding a potential assassination attempt against Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Describing the threat as "deadly serious," special services spokesperson Jacek Dobrzynski stated that authorities consider there is a "high probability" the plot could be carried out, though officials declined to provide specific details about the warning's origin.
Intelligence sources indicated the warning included specific addresses linked to Tusk and Kosiniak-Kamysz; reports from daily newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza suggest the threat originated from "right-wing extremists," making this communication more disturbing than previous warnings.
Government spokesperson Adam Szlapka confirmed Tusk was briefed Sunday morning at around 7 a.m., stating "the matter is serious," while emphasizing the Prime Minister remains in Warsaw and continues his official duties.
This alert follows a week of heightened vigilance in Poland, where authorities manage both a surge in school violence and ongoing hybrid attacks by Russia intended to weaken Western support for Ukraine.
The Polish interior ministry said Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz may have been targets of assassination expected.
