PM Modi Speech in Parliament Live: 'Blockage Strait of Hormuz Is Unacceptable,' PM Modi Says in Lok Sabha
- On Monday, Narendra Modi warned the Lok Sabha that 'The situation in West Asia is worrisome' as the conflict enters its fourth week.
- Because India imports most of its energy, the disruption at the Strait of Hormuz after February 18 affects supplies, as 'A large quantity of crude oil, gas, fertilisers and many essential items comes to India through the Strait of Hormuz route. Since the war began, the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz has become very challenging', Modi said.
- In response, India has mobilised repatriation, operational outreach rooms, 24x7 helplines, and holds strategic petroleum reserves of more than 5.3 million metric tons, working on 6.5 million more.
- On fertilisers, New Delhi noted the government has set up 6 functional urea manufacturing units and expects to import nearly 10 million tonnes of urea this year, diversifying energy sources to 41 countries from 27.
- Modi condemned attacks on commercial ships, saying 'India has opposed attacks on energy and transport infrastructure' and urged Parliament's unified voice to prepare for lasting effects, citing the COVID period.
