GREATER LONDON, ENGLAND, JUL 25 – The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement aims to boost trade, investment, and job creation, with businesses set to benefit from clearer market access, officials said.
- On Thursday at Chequers, Union Minister Piyush Goyal and UK Secretary Jonathan Reynolds signed the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement before Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
- Earlier this week, the India-U.K. CETA, signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, highlights expanding bilateral trade and investment ties.
- Data show it secures duty-free access for 99% of India’s exports to the UK, Goyal said, and the pact aims to double bilateral trade to USD 112 billion by 2030.
- Beyond tariff cuts, Piyush Goyal noted that simplified visa rules and a Double Contribution Convention will ease movement for Indian professionals, facilitating bilateral growth.
- Implementation is set to begin, Piyush Goyal said, adding that the pact will take a few months to implement, giving businesses certainty of upcoming changes.
