Villanova puts home win streak on the line against Portland

The Villanova Wildcats defeated the Portland Pilots 71-61 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania on Thursday, ending the Pilots' season and their run in the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament, in front of 1,153 people at Finneran Pavilion.
Villanova, seeded fourth with a 20-14 record , was trying to extend its three-game home winning streak against unseeded Portland, who had a 31-4 record prior to the game.
Villanova, who averages 63.8 points per game, never trailed after the opening minutes, built a lead as large as 15 points, and was up 36-24 at halftime, while Portland, who averages 71.9 points per game, shot only 38% from the field.
Jasmine Bascoe led Villanova with 20 points, eight assists, and five rebounds, while Emme Shearer scored 17 points for Portland, and Trista Hull had a double-double with 13 points.
With the win, the Wildcats, whose final record was 21-14, advanced in the tournament to face Belmont, a 3 seed from Tennessee with a 24-12 record, in the tournament semifinals on Monday in Indianapolis, while the WBIT championship game is slated for Wednesday in Indianapolis.
