Pilot dies in light aircraft crash near airfield in Devon
Police said the pilot, believed to be a woman in her 40s, was pronounced dead and no one else was on board.
On Friday morning, a pilot died after her light aircraft crashed near Dunkeswell Airfield in Devon. Police confirmed the pilot was flying alone when the incident occurred.
Dunkeswell Airfield, a former RAF site located in the Blackdown Hills, is the highest licensed aerodrome in the world. The crash site sits near the Somerset border.
South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust crews arrived at 10:01hrs on Friday to the scene. Connetts Farm owner Nick Stevens reported seeing a 'serious fire' while working nearby.
The Air Accident Investigation Branch has begun an inquiry as police confirmed the pilot's next of kin has been informed. Officials requested footage from the public via log 268.
Supt Jo Arundale stated the force is working to 'thoroughly investigate' the crash circumstances. She appealed to the public not to speculate regarding the sad incident.
