Penticton Vees forward drafted by Montreal Canadiens
The 19-year-old forward was the 224th pick after an unconventional junior career and an injury-shortened season.
On Saturday, the Montreal Canadiens selected forward Tyler Deakos in the seventh round of the 2026 NHL draft, taking him 224th overall in Buffalo, N.Y.
After being cut from the WHL in September 2025, Deakos split time last season between the Drumheller Dragons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League and Waterloo Black Hawks in the United States Hockey League before signing with the Penticton Vees in April.
Vees director of scouting Adam Sergerie said, "Tyler is a strong 200-foot player who s responsible at both ends of the rink," highlighting his forechecking and inside protection skills.
Deakos was one of two Penticton Vees players selected at the draft last weekend; defenceman Sean Burick was also chosen by the Vegas Golden Knights in the third round.
Despite an injury that cut his season short, the 19-year-old demonstrated he could play in every situation, having previously spent five seasons with Edge School Prep in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League.
