All We Imagine as Light Director Payal Kapadia Named Jury President for Cannes Critics' Week

The Indian filmmaker will lead a five-member panel that will award prizes for feature and short films from 1,050 submissions.

  • Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia will serve as president of the jury for the 65th Cannes Critics Week, leading the selection process for the parallel section running May 13-21.
  • Kapadia broke out internationally in 2024 when her second feature, All We Imagine as Light, won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, marking her arrival as a major contemporary voice.
  • Joining Kapadia on the jury are Pellerin, Oklou, Ama Ampadu, and Bangkok World Film Festival Donsaron Kovitvanitcha. The panel will award the Ami Paris Grand Prize, the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award, and the Sony Discovery Prize.
  • Selected from 2,400 entries, the festival will showcase 13 short films alongside 11 first and second features. Kapadia noted that "supporting first films is almost a resistance to market forces."
  • Kapadia called film criticism "one of the key components of the independent and art house film ecosystem," adding that "first films are also fragile" and need nurturing through sections like Critics Week.
